Thomas Boliver
Cross
Thomas Boliver Cross was born in Vermont in 1798. He moved from there
to New York prior to 1826. Sometime prior to 1854, he moved to Warren County,
Illinois and became a farmer. Lands Listed for Taxation in Warren County
Illinois 1856 pages 28 and 29 lists: T.B. Cross SW subdivision of NW Section 26
Township 10N Range 1W 160 acres value 1120 (last column unreadable) and T.B.
Cross NW corner of NW subdivision of Section 27 Township 10N Range 1W 12 acres
value 132 (last column unreadable). The Plat book of 1860 shows him owning 80
acres in Section 26 and 12 acres in Section 27 of Floyd Township.
He served in a variety of public offices in the county. At the first election of
Floyd Township, held April 4, 1854 he was elected highway commissioners. At one
time he was a Justice of the Peace for Floyd Township. "Genealogical Data
From The Monmouth Atlas 1856-1865" pages 6 and 10 lists him as performing
two marriages in 1856. He served as Floyd Township supervisor from 1857-1860.
The 1860 census shows five of his seven children as being in his household even
though they are adults and some of them married. It also lists Leonard Hatch,
age 2 (possibly a grandson as part of the household.
Tombstone inscription Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, IL states: Thomas B. Cross Died
April 12, 1869 Aged 71 yrs 3 mos 7 days.
